Smart trainers that work with YourIntervals

YourIntervals controls your smart trainer in ERG mode over Bluetooth. If your trainer supports the Bluetooth Fitness Machine Service (FTMS), it works — that covers most current trainers.

What is FTMS?

The Fitness Machine Service is the Bluetooth standard smart trainers use to report power, cadence and speed and to accept a target power. Because it is a standard, YourIntervals works with trainers from many brands without brand-specific setup.

Other trainers

Your brand isn't listed? Check the trainer's specs or manual for “FTMS” or “Bluetooth FTMS”. If it's there, YourIntervals can control it. If the trainer doesn't show up, update its firmware with the manufacturer's app: some trainers only enable FTMS after an update.

Not supported

  • Trainers without resistance control (classic or “dumb” trainers). You can still ride every workout with targets only.
  • Trainers that connect only over ANT+ FE-C. iPhones have no ANT+ radio.
  • Standalone power meters, for now.

How to connect

  1. Power on the trainer and pedal for a few seconds to wake it up.
  2. Close other apps that might be connected to it (Zwift, the manufacturer's app, TrainerRoad, a bike computer).
  3. In YourIntervals, open Settings › Smart trainer and tap your trainer. The app remembers it for next time.
  4. Pick a workout and start riding. The trainer sets the resistance for every interval automatically.

Questions

Which smart trainers work with YourIntervals?

Any smart trainer that supports the Bluetooth Fitness Machine Service (FTMS) with target power control. That includes most current trainers from Wahoo KICKR, Tacx NEO and FLUX, Elite, Saris, Zwift Hub, JetBlack VOLT, Wattbike, Thinkrider.

Does YourIntervals support ANT+?

No. iPhones have no ANT+ radio, so YourIntervals connects over Bluetooth only. Most current smart trainers support both.

Can I use a power meter instead of a smart trainer?

Not yet. Standalone power meters are on the roadmap. Until then you can ride any workout without a trainer: the app shows the targets and you set the effort yourself.

Which heart-rate sensors work?

Any Bluetooth heart-rate strap, and watches that can broadcast heart rate over Bluetooth.
